The Christian Motorcyclists Association is interdenominational and evangelistic in nature. We believe in:
HOW IT ALL GOT STARTED
It didn’t take us long to meet each other after moving to the South Okanagan, with our love for “Bikes, Bikers & Jesus”. By the summer of 2014 there were 7 active CMA members in the Summerland/Penticton area enjoying local rides and fellowship with each other. This continued for a couple of years. In October of 2017 it became obvious there was enough interest to start a CMA Chapter in the Southern Interior when approximately 20 Christian Riders showed up at a rendezvous in Vernon from towns and cities such as Kamloops, Armstrong, Vernon, Kelowna, Westbank and Summerland. We had all been called “according to his purpose”. But the main question of the day was; how could we possibly work together in ministry while living so far apart? We didn’t understand the answer at the time, but we knew with God’s help and the use of technology it would be possible. Our first video conference was held November 4th, 2017 when CMA Members from Summerland and Kamloops scheduled a Skype Meeting. We experienced many technical issues, such as no voice at all on some computers, loud squealing feedback noises from others, and lots of confusion getting software loaded. Despite all this, we were excited to see how video conferencing could work to bring us closer together despite great distances. Our Skype Meetings gradually improved over time, and we were soon able to discuss how to best use Skype, social media, email and other technology to communicate amongst our members. We realized our ministry would be very different than typical CMA Chapters who focus their activities in huge cities. Instead we would be establishing Regional Chapter, where members would use their talents and experience to support each other throughout a much larger area where membership is more widely dispersed. We also recognized that God had orchestrated a very dynamic team of talented evangelists at all stages of maturity.
By the time we received our charter on July 14th, 2018 there were 15 members in the Southern Interior Christian Riders and numbers have increased since then. We continue to use Skype to augment our reach throughout the area. Still, rides and in-person contact cannot be replaced and we look forward to going out and interacting with fellow motorcyclists….wherever they may be.
